Job Description
Albemarle Hopeline, Inc. has been serving victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in northeastern North Carolina for forty years. We are seeking a compassionate professional to join our team. Advocates seek to support and empower survivors using trauma-informed, victim-centered practices. Bilingual candidates strongly encouraged to apply.
Advocates provide the following services in accordance with a client’s individual needs and choices:
- Assistance in filing for emergency protective orders
- Information on victims’ rights and protections
- Information about the criminal and civil justice processes
- Assistance with completing Crime Victims’ Compensation applications
- Accompaniment for court/legal proceedings and/or law enforcement interviews
- Crisis intervention
- Emotional support
- Referrals to other needed resources in the community
- Safety planning and associated follow-ups
This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Occasional morning/evening hours may be required. Albemarle Hopeline serves the counties of Chowan, Gates, Perquimans, Pasquotank, Camden, and Currituck, and this position will require frequent travel throughout those six counties (mileage reimbursement provided for travel beyond normal commute to assigned office).
This position also participates in the agency-wide crisis coverage rotation which includes answering the crisis hotline overnight and on weekends, and providing in-person hospital response for sexual assault victims at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center (additional stipend paid for crisis coverage).
Salary range dependant on experience and education. Benefits available after probationary period include employer-paid health insurance, retirement plan, short-term disability plan, paid time off, and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications: Empathy, compassion, and a non-judgmental attitude. Ability to remain calm in emotionally charged situations. Ability to work within strict confidentiality guidelines. Strong assessment, crisis intervention, and case management skills. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in social work, criminal justice, or other related field of study required (may be substituted with four years of highly relevant experience). Two years of human services experience is required, experience in victims’ services or criminal justice highly preferred. Familiarity with community resources is strongly valued. Bilingual abilities in Spanish or other language are strongly valued.
Must have the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and communicate with coworkers to meet client needs. Must have strong written and oral communication skills, as well as current computer and technology skills. An acceptable driving record and access to reliable transportation is required. Subject to criminal background check prior to first date of employment; must demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States.
