Under the general supervision of the Program Director at\nthe UCLA Area Service Center (ASC), California Newborn Screening Program (NBS),\nthe Newborn Screening Coordinator coordinates care and follow-up for positive\nand non-positive Newborn Screening referrals, including inadequates,\nincompletes (initial and recall specimens), optional TPN-related follow-up,\noptional hemoglobin follow-up, transfusion verification, and early-collection\ncases. The Newborn Screening Coordinator interprets State regulations,\npolicies, and procedures for perinatal facilities and providers to ensure\ncompliance. The Coordinator also serves as team leader for facility site visits\nin San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Los Angeles counties; assesses\neducational needs of assigned facilities; and contributes to the creation and\nmaintenance of ASC educational materials. Responsibilities include managing\ndata across multiple systems (Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and\nword-processing platforms), contributing narrative and statistical content to\nquarterly, annual, and ad-hoc State reports, and providing in-services, presentations\n(including virtual), and training for healthcare professionals, community\nagencies, and parent/public groups.

The Newborn Screening Coordinator initiates and assists\nfamilies in referrals to the special care center for diagnosis and treatment,\nand follows through on NBS cases to ensure affected infants receive required\nspecialty care. The Coordinator participates as an active team member by\nreporting on cases and events, sharing notable referrals, and offering clinical\nexpertise for program development. Additional duties include providing back-up\ncoverage for other staff, serving as a clinical or public health resource in\ndeveloping statistical and educational materials, and helping create\npresentation content for the broader healthcare community. The Newborn\nScreening Coordinator also develops and implements quality improvement and\ncorrective action plans for assigned facilities and contributes to the\ndevelopment and execution of the annual education plan and State quality\nimprovement projects.

Salary Range: $70,900.00 - $145,200.00 Annually

Qualifications

  Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN).
  • Minimum of two years of recent\nclinical experience
  • Minimum of two years of\nPediatrics, maternal and child health, neonatal or public health experience.
  • Current, valid California driver’s\nlicense and a registered and insured vehicle for operation to and from mandated\nsite visits in Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo\ncounties.
  • Ability to use computer\nequipment, office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and\nexperience in charting or case management.
  • Ability to fly/travel to and\nfrom GDSP All-staff State Annual Meetings and stay overnight in a hotel as\nrequired.  
  • Ability to work on-call over\nweekends and/or holidays as assigned.  Minimum once per month.
  • Self-directed with ability to\nwork independently while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team.\nClient/customer service focused, ability to effectively interact with\npediatricians, clinics, specialty care centers and families. Excellent written\nand oral communication required. Skilled in office automation procedures.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in health education/public health or other\nhealth care field.
  • CA RN License.
  • Experience handling/completing referrals to state agencies\nfor pediatric providers and or hospital unit.
  • Ability to complete data charts in excel or other\nstatistical software.
  • Capable to lead meetings with presentation with minimal\nsupervision. Comfortable with public speaking.
  • Prior public health experience or knowledge of maternal\nchild health agencies.  
  • Team leadership experience.
  • Ability to communicate to and work with clinicians,\nfamilies and other state agencies for patient care.
  • Case management/utilization management, health education\nand/or discharge planning experience a plus. 
  • Knowledge of CCS 
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)
