The Lactation Consultant (LC) adheres to the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBCLC) scope of practice. Provides breastfeeding and nutrition counseling and education to WIC and Breastfeeding Peer Counseling (BPC) program participants and/or TrueCare patients. Assist in the training, development and implementation of breastfeeding education components of the programs. Determine client eligibility and implement WIC Program services to eligible participants. Support manager by providing leadership to staff and act as a lead in absence of manager.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Incorporate TrueCare (TC) Building Great Relationships (BGR) standards in all interactions.
• Provide breastfeeding and nutrition counseling to WIC and Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Program (BPC) participants using Participant Centered Education (PCE) principles and techniques.
• Provide lactation interventions to WIC participants and/or TC patients.
• Act as a mentor and breastfeeding resource to WIC staff and BPCs.
• Provide breastfeeding training to staff and BPCs.
• Assist with the development and teaching of nutrition and breastfeeding classes and trainings for staff and BPCs. Teach classes according to agency lesson plans.
• Develop initial individual nutrition education plans (INEP) addressing high risk issues.
• Access and utilize EPIC electronic health record as appropriate to assigned department.
• Promote and support breastfeeding as the recommended method of infant feeding and in accordance with the Breastfeeding Friendly Health Center guidelines.
• Provide referrals to other health-related programs and social services.
• Utilize CA WIC’s Statewide Database (WIC WISE) and determine WIC program eligibility.
• Prescribe food packages. Process therapeutic formula requests.
• Be accountable for WIC card security and WIC property.
• Communicate with healthcare providers as needed to obtain pertinent health information.
• Act as lead at satellite clinics, or in absence of clinic manager or RD. Follow and interpret WIC and TC policies.
• Participate in breastfeeding promotion and community outreach activities.
• Assist with all aspects of the Electric Breast Pump Loan Program.
• Participate in stocking, organizing, and cleaning common areas.

Qualifications:

• International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)
• At least one year WIC experience.
• General knowledge of Spanish, and willing to learn to counsel in Spanish.
• A high school diploma.

Desired Qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree in nutrition, or related field.
• Speak, read and write in English and Spanish

This position pays $27.38 - $39.70 on an hourly basis.

If you are hired at TrueCare, your final base salary (within the pay range), will be determined based on factors such as education, knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider the internal equity of our current team members when determining any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer generous benefits and retirement plans.
