Westlake Dermatology and Cosmetic surgery is a large dermatology group located in the Austin area with an in house dermatopathology laboratory for the processing of tissue specimens from patients. Westlake Dermatology is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to work in our Histology lab in Austin, TX. This position will be responsible for preparing tissue specimens for Pathologist diagnostic study. Candidates are expected to learn histology potentially move from a lab assistant to a histologist. No previous histology experience required - entry level candidates encouraged to apply!

Position Hours : Monday-Friday 10 am-6 pm

Responsibilities and Duties :

• Collect patient tissue specimens with appropriate logging of specimens at pick up
• Sorting patient specimens and entering specimen information in our computer system for accessioning
• ability and willingness to learn cutting patient tissue and preparing glass slides for interpretation by pathologists
• Operate a cassette labeler, and operate a tissue processor
• Perform equipment maintenance as needed
• Record equipment log data, and documentation required to manage the daily work flow and provide QC/QA controls
• Print and collate case worksheets, filing slides, jars, and paperwork, organizing waste and inventory
• Distribute cases to pathologists for diagnosis
• Understands and follows all OSHA guidelines
• Respects and maintains confidentiality of information relative to clients and patients
• Communicates with laboratory staff and its clients to ensure quality patient care.
• Demonstrates interpersonal skills required to successfully preform as a team member in a constantly changing environment.
• Organizes and accessions tissue specimens from all locations according to guidelines provided
• Troubleshoot and work with provider teams for specimens sent
• Files completed slides in numerical order in appropriate location

Education : Minimum of High School Diploma.

Pay: $18-22 per hour depending on experience with a pay increase once proficient and functioning as a histologist.
