Position Summary The Reading Specialist will lead school‑wide literacy efforts at the Wisconsin School for the Deaf (WSD) in the Division of Access and Opportunity. The specialist will establish reading goals for Deaf, Hard of Hearing (D/HH), and/or Deafblind students ages 3–21; deliver direct instruction and interventions; supervise, coach, and mentor instructional staff; and collaborate with staff to implement evidence‑based, accessible literacy practices grounded in bilingual ASL/English development. Salary Information The position is classified as Teacher Supervisor. Salary ranges from $38.00 to $41.13 per hour (approximately $79,040 – $85,550 per year). Eligible State employees may receive a $1.00 per hour add‑on for ASL fluency and up to $2.97 per hour for relevant credits beyond a bachelor's degree. The pay schedule is 81, range 03.   • Location: Wisconsin School for the Deaf, 309 West Walworth Avenue, Delavan, WI.
  • Remote work: not eligible; onsite required at all regular hours.

  • Legal authorization: must be legally entitled to work in the United States; DPI does not sponsor visas.
Qualifications Required qualifications for all applicants: Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Reading Specialist (5017) with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) with an ASL Proficiency Interview (ASLPI) rating of at least 3 by the end of probation. Master’s Degree and completion of a Tier I administrator licensure program within 2 years if not already licensed. Well‑qualified applicants will also have experience delivering literacy instruction and reading intervention with Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deafblind students, and collaborating with multi‑tier, multi‑department teams.
