As Monitor Technician, you are responsible for the ongoing surveillance of cardiac monitors. In this role, you play a critical role in ensuring the safety of patients, as your ability to assess their condition directly impacts their lives. The caregivers in this unit stay because they love seeing how their work positively improves the lives of patients and their families.

A caregiver in this position works two 12-hour nights from 6:45PM - 7:15AM, with every other weekend and one minor/major holiday requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Perform ongoing surveillance of patients’ cardiac monitors, cardiac rhythm and vital signs. 
• Notify nursing caregivers of changes in cardiac rhythm and/or hemodynamics that could impact the patient’s condition.
• Interpret patient’s cardiac rhythm and document in the patient’s electronic medical record. 
• Answer the telephone and communicate clearly when receiving and delivering information. 
• Orient and mentor new caregivers and serve as a training and troubleshooting resource for the CMU and nursing units.
• Provide reports for the oncoming shift.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care activities through successful completion of a formal training program in Allied Health or a healthcare field such as Nursing, Medical Assisting, EMT or a similar field OR one year of patient care experience in a hospital, nursing home, or healthcare field
• Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, computer and typing skills
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
• Experience with monitoring patients
• Completion of EKG/Cardiac Monitoring Course

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Experience as a Monitor Technician
• Demonstrated skill in recognizing abnormal cardiac rhythms

Physical Requirements:

• Working in a fast paced environment under moderate pressure
• Multi-tasking with accuracy to keep track of a large number of patients
• Long periods of sitting and watching a computer monitors
• Visual acuity for observing cardiac monitor data

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
