Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Outpatient Lactation Consultant Coordinator to enhance our lactation consultation services for patients. The role involves developing and managing a comprehensive outpatient lactation program, focused on delivering safe and family-centered care. You will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate tailored lactation strategies for breastfeeding, chest-feeding, and pumping parents, working collaboratively with patients, families, and healthcare teams. Your clinical expertise in breastfeeding and human lactation will be vital in supporting families during their lactation journeys. This position is part of an integrated health care team and follows the international standards of practice established by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) and the International Lactation Consultant Association.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited nursing school is required. CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: A current RN license in New Mexico and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification are required. Completion of the International Board Certified Lactation Consultant Course is mandatory.

SKILLS:

Strong understanding of best practices in infant feeding. Experience with program development, management, and analysis. Collaborative skills to work effectively with both inpatient and outpatient teams. Capability to coordinate care with local partners. Excellent training and public speaking abilities. Proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Outstanding written, verbal, and electronic communication skills. Cultural humility & awareness of social factors affecting healthcare. EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 5 years of lactation support experience is essential.

Work involves exposure to various patient care activities, with the potential for contact with infectious diseases. The working environment is typical of a healthcare facility, with standard heat, light, and air conditions. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Flexibility is key, as working hours may vary due to emergencies and schedule changes. The role requires the ability to manage emergency situations, and involves significant standing and walking. Strong listening and communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary.
