Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

A school district in New Orleans, LA is seeking professional Sign Language Interpreters to support K-12 students throughout the academic year. This full-time, contract position offers an exciting opportunity to apply your skills in a dynamic educational environment.

Location: Gretna, LA (serving schools in Jefferson Parish)
Position Duration: Contract through 5/22/2026
Work Schedule: Full-time, 35 hours per week (7 hours/day with a 30-minute unpaid lunch), Monday through Friday aligned with the school calendar

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality sign language interpretation services for K-12 students, facilitating clear communication between students, teachers, and staff
  • Support classroom instruction and other educational activities adhering to best practices in sign language interpretation
  • Collaborate with educators, administrators, and support staff to ensure accessibility and inclusion for deaf and hard-of-hearing students
  • Maintain documentation and comply with school policies and confidentiality requirements
  • Adapt and modify interpretation strategies based on individual student needs and classroom settings

Required Qualifications:

  • Active Louisiana Department of Education certification for Sign Language Interpreters
  • Proven experience providing ASL/SLI services in educational settings, preferably K-12
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse age groups
  • Reliable, professional, and capable of managing a caseload with flexibility and responsiveness
