Job Description

Overview Perform general housekeeping/custodial duties primarily in the Capital Eatery. This position will be required to work during delays and snow closure days that may fall on scheduled workdays. This position will be required to work overtime on short notice to include evenings, weekends, special events and call ins at the discretion of the appropriate supervisor. Additional hours with little or no prior notice may be required. The work schedule is as follows: On Friday and Saturday, the shift starts at 8:30 p.m. and ends at 5:00 a.m., with a 1-hour lunch break. On Sunday, the shift runs from 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., also including a 1-hour lunch break. Qualifications

EDUCATION

High School Diploma or GED or equivalent. Preferred LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS Valid and in State Valid Driver's License Required EXPERIENCE Experience as a custodian. Preferred Familiarity with automated cleaning equipment. Preferred ABILITIES AND SKILLS Ability to read, write, and interpret instructions. Required Responsibilities Dispose of trash. Clean common living space including appliances. Empty cigarette urns and clean as necessary. Sweep, dust mop, and wet mop areas. Vacuum and shampoo carpeted areas. Clean fountains, ashtrays, and blackboards. Dust and/or wash areas requiring same. Clean bathrooms to include all sinks, counters, toilets, showers, mirrors, and replenish supplies. Clean restrooms and replenish supplies. Wash windows and door glass. Clean laundry rooms to include washers and dryers, sinks, and counters. Clean apartments at the end of each semester or when vacated. Strip and refinish floors and maintain all types of floor surfaces. Sweep stairs and stairwells and wash same. Remove ice and snow from stairs, entrances, and walks. Wash walls, window ledges, woodwork, furnishings; remove graffiti. Replace light bulbs and tubes; clean light fixtures. Keep area stocked with cleaning supplies; submit supply and repair requisitions to Supervisor. Check exterior areas for trash, broken glass, etc., and clean up as necessary. Keep housekeeping equipment clean and perform minor repairs on same. Respond to calls requesting clean up as needed. When leaving buildings, responsible for seeing that buildings are properly secured. Perform minor repairs of housekeeping equipment. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Set up areas for special events as requested. Function as an attendant at special College events. Physical Standards and Special Job Features Exposure to dust and harsh chemicals in performing duties. Lifting 65 lbs. maximum, without assistance, with frequent lifting and carrying of objects up to 50 lbs. May require climbing and working off of ladders, scaffolding, and powered lifts.
