UFC 186 and Fox Sports 1 on April 25, 2015

04-23-2015, by JP Scarano, Exclusively for TheFightWorld.Com

On Saturday, April 25, 2015 in Montreal, Quebec Canada, we have a title fight that isn’t really getting the hype and talk like it should especially with a returning former world champion. This fight card was supposed to be a double title fight with UFC World Bantamweight Champion TJ Dillasaw vs. Renan Barao in a rematch but Dillasaw got hurt. Hehad to be taken off the fight so that rematch has to wait a little bit more and is happening very soon. So the co-main event is now the main event. For me, this is going to be a great fight for the UFC World Flyweight Championship. Current champ, Demetriouse Johnson, is looking to defend his belt for the 6th time against one of the toughest Japanese fighters I have seen in a long time: Kyoji Horiguchi. Before I get into that fight, lets take a look  at the rest of the fight card.

On UFC Fights Pass 6:30PM/3:30PM ET/PT are the first 3 prelims with 3 great fights. The first fight is in the women’s Strawweight division were Randa Markos, 4-3-0, is taking on Aisling Daly, 15-5-0. These  2 ladies know each other from TUF 20 and also as teammatesl. They are looking to move up in rank to get a shot at the belt.

Also in the women’s Strawweight divison Valerie Letourneau, 6-3-0, is  taking on Jessica Rakoczy, 1-4-0. I know we haven’t see Rakoczy since her loss back in 2013 in the TUF Finals but she is back now and wants to fight at the weight she that matches her boxing skills. Letourneau is looking to make it a hometown win and make it 2 in a row for her in the UFC.

The last fight is in the Welterweight division with Nodrdine Taleb, 10-2-0, taking on Chris Clements, 12-5-0(1). Both of these men want to win in their hometown as well.

FOX Sports 1 prelims will be on at 8PM/5PM ET/PT. It will have a great line up of fighters starting it off in the Lightweight division. Olivier Aubin-Mercier, 6-1-0, is taking on David Michaud, 8-1-0. Both men want to keep their winning ways going to prove they belong where they are.

In the Lightweight division Chad Laprise, 10-0-0 ,taking on Bryan Barberena, 10-2-0. These fighters want to keep their unbeaten records in the UFC.

In the women’s Bantamweight division we have Alexis Davis, 16-6-0, taking on Sarah Kaufman,  17-2-0(1). These omen are hometown girls who want to get wins and  to get a rematch with current UFC Women’s World Bantamweight Champion, Ronda Rousey.

The last fight on the prelims are two true vets in the Welterweight division is Patrick Cote, 21-9-0, taking on Joe Riggs, 45-15-0. Cote and Riggs are coming off losses and want to show the UFC and their fans that they should stay in the UFC. This is even more so for Cote who is the hometown fighter.

Onto the main card and on PPV at 10PM/7PM ETPT we have in the men’s Bantamweight division Yves Jabourin, 20-9-0, taking on undefeated Thomas Almeida, 18-0-0. This should be an exciting fight to start off the night.

In a catchweight fight at 160 lbs. we have John Makadessi, 12-3-0, vs. Shane Campbell, 11-2-0. When first I heard this was a catchweight fight it left me wondering. Later, I found out that Campbell is a late replacement and wouldn’t make the 155 lbs. limit in time so they made it a catchweight fight.

In the Middleweights, Michael Bisping, 26-7-0, will be taking on CB Dollaway, 16-7-0. Both Bisping and Dollaway are coming off losses and want to prove they are still in the hunt for the title.

In the co-main event (which was off and is now back on) in the Light-Heavyweight division we will have Rampage Jackson, 32-10-0, taking on Fabio Maldonado, 22-7-0. This fight wasn’t going to happen because Rampage got hit with an injunction barring him from fighting from his former employers. Fortunately,  his lawyers stepped in and got it fixed. So now this fight is happening which I am very happy about.

Now onto our main event of the evening current UFC World Flyweight Championship Demetriouse Johnson, 21-2-1, is taking on Kyoji Horiguchi, 15-1-0.  As a fight fan, this is kind of sad to me that this fight isn’t getting the hype or publicity it should. I have read on a few other sites that Johnson isn’t sellable at all as a champion, which in my mind is BS. Both both of these men should be promoted by everyone because they are fighting in a new division. I am excited about this new division because I have always liked the lighter fighters. If you have seen what Johnson has done in the Flyweight division then you should be able to sell him and Horiguchi, as well.

So I am going to sell you all right now starting with the challenger. Horiguchi is a tough Japanese fighter who is without a doubt going to be the biggest threat to Johnson to date. Johnson is defending his title for a 6th time and is willing to fight anyone who is in his weight class or go to an upper division. Both these men have power, speed, a great ground game and so much more.

Who do you have fans have for these fights ?
