Results from UFC, RFA and Invicta FC with shocking news from UFC

This past weekend there were some amazing fights from 4 different promotions and a big shocker from the UFC about a former WWE champion!  I have already covered results from ONE FC and how they are becoming the top dog in Asia. Now onto the rest of the Friday nights fights.

RFA 21 was in Costa Mesa, California, which is in our back yard, and they didn’t disappoint us at all. We saw some really great fights and a new RFA World Lightweight Champion being crowned in the main event. We saw 6 great matches and only 2 of them went all 3 rounds.

In the main event we saw Mehdi Baghdad def. Zach Juusola by TKO with elbow and punches in the 4th round in which both fighters were going back and forth. This could have been anyone’s fight but Baghdad wanted it more and just came out swinging.

Invicta FC was in Houston, Texas Friday night we only got to see it on UFC Fight Pass. It was so worth it and with this being the only female mixed martial arts company they are really showing why they are the top fight promotion for the ladies. If you haven’t seen or dislike women’s MMA then you are just missing out on some of the best fights from Invicta FC. That’s because these ladies always come ready and bring it to the ring every time.

In the main event we saw a new champion crowned when Herica Tiburcio def. Michelle Waterson by submission (guillotine choke) in the 3rd round and again another great fight by these awesome ladies. I hope in 2015 Invicta FC comes back to California so we can go and see them live.

UFC was in Las Vegas Saturday night with 2 title fights and shocking news about a former WWE wrestler and I am not talking about Brock Lesner. This is the UFC’s last Pay Per View of the year and they came through big time on this one. Now if they keep this up 2015 is going to be an amazing year for fights.

There were so many fights to talk about but one fighter who I have to say welcome back to (also I am sorry for the loss of your girlfriend this past year ) is Josh Samman who got hurt early in 2014 with a hamstring injury. He came back and knocked out TUF Winner Eddie Gordon with a switch change round house kick that you don’t see often and he pulled it off beautifully.

Lets talk about the Co-Main and Main event fights. In first title defense UFC World Lightweight Champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis took on Gilbert “El Nino” Melendez. A lot of people were counting the champ out before the fight even began and said that Melendez was going to take the fight and be the champion. Fortunately, Pettis wasn’t listening to everyone and showed us why he was the champ by submitting Melendez in the 2nd round. This was Melendez’s first time at being stopped in a fight. All his other loses were by decision. Pettis knew he had to take the Melendez by storm. Melendez is ground specialist but to submit him was Pettis’ way of demonstrating that he isn’t just a striker.

Before we get to the Main Event there has been talk going around about a WWE superstar wanting to become an MMA fighter. hat man is none other then Phil “CM Punk” Brooks. Brooks is no joke at all when it comes to martial arts because he has been training in Kenpo, Jiu-Jitsu, and Thai-Boxing since he was a kid. After his fall out with the WWE he was been thinking long and hard about what he wants to do and he is definitely coming to the UFC. What weight divison  he will be fighting is yet to be determined. We’re guessing middleweight(185) or welterweight(170) but Brook’s want’s to test cut first and he also needs to find the right team to train with.

Now lets get into the Main event! This was a rematch that screamed! It needed to happen with UFC World Welterweight Champion Johny Hendricks taking on Robbie Lawler. Lawler has been on a tear since his loss to Hendricks early this year. Lawler started the first round like he always does with his striking and taking control and showed that his ground game has been improving. But in the 2nd and 3rd rounds Hendricks was showing that he was there to fight and used his wrestling moves to show why he was the champion. In the 4th and 5th round Hendricks seemed out of it and didn’t fight back at all. Hetried to coast but Lawler was there to fight and win. After a 5 round war we saw a new UFC World Welterweight Champion; “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler. This was the only title that Lawler hasn’t won for himself and his team, American Top Team. This is their first UFC Championship.
