There have been some major change-ups recently in the UFC and one of them I am kind of shocked, but happy about. The UFC said that the change-up with two cards is because Tarec Saffiedine, who was supposed to fight on UFC Fight Night 60 on Feb. 14 2015 against Matt Brown, has been forced to pull out of the fight due to a groin injury. This left Brown without someone to fight until now.
Matt Brown was on a major winning streak until he met current UFC World Welterweight Champion Robbie Lawler. We saw this pair go to work where Lawler took the win along with a shot for the title. Brown is now hoping to get another winning streak going in order for him to get a shot at the title. However, with Saddiedine hurt, Brown has been waiting in the wings for a replacement fighter. He has gotten it in former champion, Johnny Hendricks. Hendricks was supposed to get a rematch and a trilogy with Lawler but, I guess, the UFC has changed their mind and Brown vs. Hendricks is now going to happen at UFC 185. If either of these men get a win, I think they should get the next title shot, for sure.
But don’t worry, guys! The co-main event is now going to be the main event at UFC Fight Night 60. It will still be in the Welterweight division where Brandon Thatch vs. Stephen Thompson went from a 3-round fight to a 5-round fight. Both of these men are excited about the change and are ready to step up to this type of competition. Thatch was out in all of 2014 with an injury and is looking to keep his winning ways going in the UFC. Thompson, who is on a 4-fight winning streak, is also looking to continue moving up the ranks of the UFC and move closer to top contention.
With this happening, who will be facing the champion Lawler now? Everyone is speculating that Rory MacDonald is looking like the guy who will be facing him in Canada soon. I think that would be a great match up. Again, I say that because Lawler and MacDonald have fought before and it was a close fight. Lawler took the win then and has made it clear that he is the man to beat. Lawler should not forget, though, that when MacDonald gets knocked down, this kid gets right back up. He is more dangerous and ready for a fight then anyone I have seen in a long time. Do I think this fight should happen? YES, I do! But, will it happen? My crystal ball is a little foggy on this one, but I think that it is extremely possible.
What do you fans think of this change-up ?
