Bellator, WSOF and UFC Results from 1-16, 17 and 18, 2015

Well, fight fans, we had a triple header of fights with Bellator MMA, WSOF, and UFC this past weekend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It’s very rare for us to have this kind of a weekend. Let’s get it started with the results.

Bellator MMA was on Friday night from Temecula, California with co-main and main events with that ended with back-to-back submissions. First we had Georgi Karakhanyan defeating Bubba Jenkins by guillotine choke in the first round. Karakhanyan looked really good and came out to show that releasing him the first time was a mistake. With this win Karakhanyan has shown that he should be in the mix for a title shot soon.

Speaking of title shots we had Daniel Straus taking on Patricio Freire for the Bellator MMA World Featherweight Championship. These two men picked up where they left off from their first bout together. Freire was successful in defending and preserving his Featherweight title with a 4th round submission via a rear naked choke.

WSOF was on Saturday night from Las Vegas, Nevada and everyone on this card had a lot to show and prove in the new year. A main event win here was for a title shot against WSOF World Welterweight Champion Rousimar Palhares who has been on a roll since getting released from the UFC. In the WSOF main event we had Jake Shields vs. Brian Foster. Both these men are former UFC vets and both are looking to get another title and prove they still belong in the top promotion. Foster was looking to keep his winning streak going but it was Shields who wanted it more with a submission in the 1st round.

UFC was on Sunday night from Boston, Massachusetts where the main and co-main events were the talk of the night. We saw a rematch from the WEC days and a main event with title shot written all over it. The co-main event of the evening was Donald Cerrone vs. Benson Henderson in their rubber match to see if Henderson could go 3-0 against Cerrone. That was not to be. It was Cerrone who took the UD from Henderson and the look on Henderson’s face was one of shock. I watched the fight 3 times and Cerrone out-struck Henderson with many combos and angles.

The main UFC event was a hyped-up one with Connor McGregor taking on Dennis Siver with a title shot and lots of pride  on the line. In the first round we saw McGregor just take it right to Siver and delivered combos that caught Siver off guard. Siver really tried to get an offense going but he couldn’t do it.

In the 2nd round McGregor just wouldn’t let up and he got Siver down to get the TKO. It was after the fight that shocked people. McGregor was looking for champ Jose Aldo and when he found him,  McGregor jumped the cage and got into Aldo’s face and shouted at him. After this fight McGregor is going to get his title shot and it will be in Las Vegas sometime this year.
